Our New Home
YES, YES, YES!!! It is official; Pumpkin Shell has a new home. As many of you have heard, the University of Oklahoma has purchased our current property. The reason that this is such a good thing for Pumpkin Shell School is that we have built a brand new and much needed school. Our previout buildings have been used as a preschool for over fifty years, and although we love our school, we are looking forward to starting a new chapter for Pumpkin Shell.
Along with moving our tables, books and crayons, we will also be carrying with us our values, curriculums and long standing traditions. We will still be licensed for the same amount of children, but will have much more room to learn and grow.
To be more energy efficient, we have built one home instead of three. I say "home" because that is exactly what we have built. Landmark Fine Homes has built a home for Pumpkin Shell. We did not want a big industrial building, We wanted a warm cottage home for children to transition between their homes and their elementary schools. The architect, Mack Caldwell, meticulously designed every detail to be comfortable for children. Child'size was a term that was used over and over during the design process. We are also excited about the aspect of building an energy star home; a more efficient learning environment with a smaller carbon footprint... hooray!
Finding a location for our new home was a two year process. We wanted it to be centrally located, but not on a busy street. This was probably the most difficult part of the entire process, and we believe that we have found the perfect spot. Our new location is on the corner of University Blvd. and Highland Parkway, just south of the intersection of Robinson and Flood. This location has wonderful access to I-35 for both the East and West sides of town, and has easy access to the University of Oklahoma from Flood Street. Also, the City of Norman has plans to build a new public library right down the street! So eventually, we could be within walking distance of the Norman Public Library.
We hope you share in our excitement about our new home. This is an ENORMOUS task, but with our amazing parents, children and staff we believe we can make it a fun and wonderful adventure. Thank you for all of your support! Please contact me with any ideas, suggestions or concerns. We look forward to carrying on our Pumpkin Shell legacy for many many years to come!
Sincerely,
Teacher Sherri
